WITH a theme of 1,100 years of Thelwall, large crowds turned out for the annual Thelwall Rose Queen Festival enjoying the warm weather.

After a procession of floats through the village, local residents and visitors gathered on the Chaigeley School field for the crowning and various carnival stalls.

Kaysie Wright was crowned as this year’s Rose Queen and she looked after her retinue of Isabella Potts, Olivia Williamson, Phoebe Spencer, Mia-Rae Hague, Penny Rigby & Emily Smith. Standing guard as soldiers were Bill & Ted Nelder, Sebastian Gorman and Bentley, Kyrann & Hainen Wright. Finally the Crown Bearer was Benjamin Gaffney.
There was also a fabulous scarecrow trial celebrating 1,100 years of Thelwall.
They celebrated an array of things including the Penny Ferry, Bridgewater Canal, The Rose Queen, Rev Douglas, Sleeping Postman and even Erik von Chaigeley, the Saxon Slayer!

After the event organisers said: “Thanks to everyone for making today a fantastic event!
Thanks to Chaigeley School for the use of the field, to Chris for the AV, MC Mike, everyone that ran a stall, made a cake, performed in the arena, decorated a float and to all the volunteers that set up early this morning and clear up after the event.
“This event only happens with the support of the community. If you can spare a few hours to help, please do get in touch.
“See you all next year!”
