Fire crews tackle numerous deliberate and accidental fires in the open including one near primary school

FIREFIGHTERS were kept busy with numerous deliberate and accidental fires in the open across Warrington, yesterday, Saturday, including one near to a primary school.

At 17:16 one crew was called oujt to reports of a large grass fire near to Bewsey Lodge Primary School on Lodge Lane, Warrington.

Firefighters used beaters and water back packs to tackle the large grassfire near a school field. The blaze covered an area of around 120 square metres and is thought to have been started deliberately. Anyone with information should call Cheshire Police on 101.

Earlier in the day at 09:48 one crew was called to reports of a fire on Parkgate Road, Stockton Heath.

Two wheelie bins and a fence panel caught fire as a result of hot materials being accidentally disposed of. Firefighters used a hose reel water jet to extinguish the fire. Caution is advised during the hot weather when disposing barbecue coals or embers from firepits.

Then at 10:32 crews from Warrington and Birchwood were called to a garden fire that had spread to a property.
Wearing breathing apparatus they quickly deployed a hose reel water jet to extinguish the fire and a large specialist fan to clear smoke. One person was treated at the scene by ambulance crews for the effects of smoke inhalation. The fire is believed to have been caused by a discarded cigarette in the garden.

Meanwhile at 18:05 one crew from Birchwood was called to Somerset Way, Woolston Warrington, to extinguish a bin on fire. On arrival they deployed a water back pack. It is believed the bin was set alight on purpose. Anyone with information should call Cheshire Police on 101.

Then at 19:07 one crew from Warrington was called to Lilford Avenue, Bewsey.A member of the public reported a small patch of grass on fire. When firefighters arrived, they used beaters and water backs to put it out.

Then at 21:26 one crew from Lymm was called to a fly tipping fire on Manchester Road.Fly tipped waste, including a sofa, were alight on a roundabout near Glazebrook. Firefighters used a hose reel water jet to put it out.

Finally at 21:29 firefighters were called to Chester Road, Daresbury and used hose reel water jets to extinguish two separate but nearby fires affecting undergrowth. The fires are suspected to have set on purpose. Anyone with information should call Cheshire Police on 101.
