Independent candidate says “roll on next year” despite coming bottom of poll

LATCHFORD West independent candidate Amanda Bowles says there is “plenty to build on” despite coming bottom of the poll in the local by-election result last week.

Commenting on the result Amanda said: “I thought we’d do better based on the feedback we were getting from people. But, on the other hand, 12% vote share for an independent with very limited resources, no party machine, no voter data… and with both major parties pulling in activists from out of area, MPs and even government ministers… it’s not bad from a standing start!

She added: “It is certainly a base for independents to build on for next year’s all-out elections. We’ve tested out some ideas, and we learned a lot from the campaign, for example about how best to focus limited resources… and we’ll share that with other independent candidates

“On a personal note – I enjoyed it; tiring, but my step count was well up! I loved listening to all the people and groups I met on the campaign, and I really appreciate all the positive comments I’ve received. I really hope that Latchford residents, groups, and teams get the support they deserve.
“I believe, even more firmly now, that party politics is bad for local democracy. Roll on next year!”

With a 28.3 turnout for the by-election following the death of former Mayor Les Morgan, Labour’s Denis Matthews topped the poll with 662 votes, Conservative Stephan Taylor came second with 488, Lib Dem Sharon Harris third with 274 and independent Amanda Bowles fourth with 199.

    • Nice one Diana!!!!! I have no idea who you voted for or if you ever did?? However, to call Labour voters ” Neandathols” whatever that means, will I expect mean the likelihood of you disclosing who you voted for is remote,as your comments would damage anyone you supported!!!li
