THE league cricket season opens in the Warrington area tomorrow (Saturday) with all the local clubs playing their first match.
Light rain is forecast for Saturday afternoon, but with no rain on Thursday and none forecast for today local cricketers can be optimistic that the weather should not cause too many problems.
Grappenhall – back in the Cheshire County League ECB Premier division with high hopes of staying there long term – have a tough opening game at home to Toft.
The Knutsford side are always hard to beat as their record in the Premier division shows. Grappers, on the other hand, have been something of a “Yo-yo” team in recent years only once surviving in the top rank for more than a season.
Warrington – hoping to improve on a disappointing season last year – will travel to Wirral side Maritme who have been steadily climbing the Cheshire cricket ladder in recent years.
In the Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park host Knutsford, Appleton travel to Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge and Glazebury host Prestbury.
Appleton 2nd host Chester Boughton Hall, and Appleton 3rd take on Bowdon Vale. Appleton 4th travel to Frodsham.
Glazebury 2nd will be taking on Warrington 4th at Walton Lea
Warrington 3rd travel to Macclesfield.
