New A533 bridge overnight and weekend closures for finishing work

DRIVERS are being reminded that the new A533 Expressway bridge over the M56 near Warrington will be closed to drivers this weekend.

The bridge, which opened to traffic for the first time at 5am yesterday (Monday April 17), requires some planned finishing works including surfacing and white lining.  While the new bridge will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists it will close to drivers from 9pm on Friday April 21 until 6am on Monday April 24.
Drivers are also reminded that overnight work is also taking place every night this week – again with the bridge closed to drivers – between 7pm and 6am each night
Diversion routes will be fully signposted for drivers, making use of the local A558 and A533 roads.  The M56 will remain open throughout.
Two full weekend closures of the M56 and the new A533 bridge will be taking place in May to allow for the safe demolition of the old bridge.  The closures are scheduled to take place on the weekends beginning Friday May 12 and Friday May 19.
More information on the project and on this week’s finishing works, including diversion routes, is available on the project website
