MORE traffic chaos was reported across Warrington today, Thursday, as the Chester Road swing bridge was stuck in the open position for a second consecutive day.

It comes on the day Warrington South MP Andy Carter urged Warrington Borough Council and Peel to sit down and talk about sorting out the maintenance which has been delayed.

The bridge was stuck in the open posoiton from around 1pm this afternoon, with motorists stranded for up to 45 minutes.

It created traffic congestion on Chester Road, Gainsborough Road, Wilderspool Causeway and London Road, Stockton Heath.

The swing bridge and the one at Stockton Heath have been stuck open numerous times in recent years.
Peel set aside a nine-month maintenance programme to carry out repairs on the Bridge at Stockton Heath, but Warrington Borough Council has refused to pick up the road closure costs associated with the work.

  1. I wonder of the boot was on the other foot and the bridge froze in the closed position and it stopped the boats going through. I think we would soon have a solution from Peel. But there again, if the council wants people to come to the town they should find money for their part. Meanwhile, the public suffer again.
