UPDATED: The M62 Westbound at Birchwood has now fully re-opened following a collision involving two HGVs which resulted in a full closure overnight for emergency repairs due to a diesel spillage.
The M62 westbound between J12 (M60 / M602) and J11 (Birchwood), was completely closed for an hour yesterday following the collision, which caused up to eight miles of congestion at one time, with delays of at least an hour.
All lanes required a full resurface due to the severe damage caused to the carriageway from the diesel and hydraulic fluid spillage.
North West Motorway Police confirmed that there were ‘minor injuries’ reported in the collision, with one casualty attended to by paramedics.
National Highways have confirmed this morning that all repairs have been completed and traffic is now free-flowing.

There is currently approx. 3.5 miles of congestion on approach, causing delays of 20 minutes above usual journey times.
