THE Secretary of State for Education Gillian Keegan MP recently visited Penketh High School to see firsthand how a multi-million-pound investment secured from the Government by Warrington South MP Andy Carter, is progressing.

Penketh High School last year received funding for the construction of new state-of-the-art facilities as part of the Schools Rebuild Programme. This funding was secured by Mr Carter after he met jointly with the senior leadership team at Penketh High School and the Schools Minister.

As a result of his work a condition improvement survey was carried out resulting in the school being granted funding under the programme.
The school is one of 60 across the country that are receiving funding for new net-zero educational facilities in-line with the Government’s educational and environmental proposals.
The Secretary of State and Mr Carter were shown the development proposals and received a tour of the school by the student leadership team, headteacher John Carlin, and trust CEO Andy Moorcroft.

The Secretary of State for Education Gillian Keegan MP said: “It was fantastic to see the plans in person for Penketh High School and to see how they will transform the educational opportunities for students in west Warrington. The proposals will deliver on our commitment to provide more places at this great school.”

Following the visit Mr Carter added: “The Secretary of State and I had a brilliant tour of the school with four members of the student leadership team, we got to see for ourselves where the new school will be located and to hear the positivity about the changes that are planned.
“I’m incredibly grateful that Gillian Keegan MP who took the time to time to come to Penketh to meet Mr Carlin who’s transformed the school under his leadership. As well as discussing the timeframe for commencing work in Penketh we also discussed the need for more SEND places in the town. I’m really keen to see every young person get the best start in life with a great education and to do that we need to ensure schools have the right facilities.”
