Tories proposing a new council motion scrapping Low Traffic Neighbourhood Schemes in Orford and Westy

THE opposition Conservative Group on Warrington Borough Council has launched a new bid to immediately scrap the “very unpopular” Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) schemes in Orford and Westy.

The Tories say that they will submit a new motion for debate at the next Full Council meeting on 3 April 2023 which calls on Warrington Borough Council to immediately scrap implementation of the LTNs in Orford and Westy.

Conservative Councillors previously sought to halt the LTNs at Full Council in June 2022, but the motion was rejected by the Labour majority.

Commenting on the new motion, Tory Group Leader, Cllr Nigel Balding commented: “There has now been sufficient time to gather data on Westy LTN and as such the Council is in a position to make a decision now, there’s no need to wait any longer.”
“The road layout in Warrington is totally unsuited to these LTNs. It is clear that WBC is continuing to implement LTNs without suitable consultation and these proposals do not command the support of Warrington’s residents”.
“Labour has demonstrated that it is out of touch with residents on the LTNs and Conservative Councillors are calling for the LTN plans to be scrapped in Orford and Westy without any further delay.”

The borough council is currently running the low traffic schemes on a trial basis and has steadfastly refused calls from local residents to scrap them, although some modifications were made to the original schemes.

Work is currently ongoing at Orford implementing low traffic schemes.
