Campaign group seeks more support after raising £10k in bid to acquire original Fiddle I’th Bag Inn

THE local campaign group working earnestly to save The Fiddle I’th Bag Inn, which can be traced back to the 19th Century, has so far raised £10,000 to acquire the premises.

The Fiddle I’th Bag Inn, located on Alder Lane, Burtonwood in Warrington, is the final one of four original Place markers laid down in the village and civil parish of Burtonwood and Westbrook in the 1840s.

Now The Fiddle I’th Bag Appreciation Group, a local assembly of residents and supporters, have managed to raise just over £10,000.00 in pledged donations through their endeavours to date including this news platform, and are now hoping to secure the support of both their Prime Candidate Investor(s) and the Brewery- Trust Inns in order to acquire said premises as soon as possible.
The campaign is being jointly coordinated by local businessman- Mr. Rob Minjoot, Theatre Performer- Lavinia and Community Campaigner David Barton to help facilitate a strategy towards occupying the site once more on behalf of Burtonwood residents and visitors alike.

In order to strengthen their chances at acquiring an Angel/ Emergency Investor, the Campaign Team has established a Pledge Donation Fundraiser to assist with the overall Return on Investment thereby providing assurances for said investors. This will be compounded by a wave of voluntary refurbishment support from the growing list of trading professionals and supporters who will have the chance to see their donations become a share hold upon repaying back the original investor(s).
Mr. Minjoot said: “It’s absolutely incredible that within just 48 hours of launching the Fundraiser we have managed to raise over £10k! Whilst this sounds great by itself, we believe and realize that we still need to go further but hope that this milestone in our campaign will help prove just how serious we are about saving the Fiddle.”

Chief Fundraiser Lavinia said: “If you’re interested in supporting us please contact either or both Rob and David. I’m presently preparing a Psychic Night Fundraiser which will comprise the first official fundraising aspect of the campaign, but if anyone else wants to join in please let us know as soon as you can.”
Mr. Barton said: “We sincerely hope that we can get our Angel/ Emergency Investor to commit to our cause very soon. We have a strong network of residents based across northern Warrington now and we hope to consolidate all ongoing efforts with the purchase of the premises in the near future.”

Local resident Michelle McCormick said: “This pub was amazing- the staff, the food, it was like walking in to another world with the memorabilia! The effort that was put into the business as landlords was phenomenal! The ground, the area, the people made this pub and it’s an area that brings the community together. People need and want a lovely place to go when it’s towards the weekend, a night out for tea as a family having quality family time. The pub has amenities and needs for every single person who walks in the pub- this pub must open to keep the spirit of the community going, bring more people into work and bring the society together as one again.”

The pub’s namesake hails from a pastoral instrument used for sowing corn predating the Industrial Revolution of 1760 when many North-West based places began their existence as agricultural settlements.
The former Public House has been a long-established popular destination for regulars based in and around St. Helens and northern Warrington in its rural setting. Playing a core role in World War Two with its usage by the UK and US Armed Forces, the historic site has represented a key part in local residents’ lives ever since with many tales of people’s individual connections to the Public House including wedding receptions, annual seasonal fayre celebrations and more.

  1. I went once. Was like steptoes junk yard inside. Awful place!
Pull it down and get rid. Give the money to a more worthy cause, like Warrington Animal Welfare!
