Warrington – ninth safest place to be a pedestrian

WARRINGTON is the ninth safest town or city in the UK to be a pedestrian, according to a new study.

Bollards Direct – who supply bollards, barriers and other street furniture – have researched major towns and cities across the country, looking at factors such as the number of pedestrian accidents and crime rates.
They looked at population, safety walking alone at night, worries about being mugged or robbed, crime rate, pedestrian accidents and worries about being attacked because of your skin colour, ethnic origin, gender or religion.
Warrington came in at ninth in the list with a pedestrian safety score of 7.93 out of 10. None of Warrington’s neighbouring towns or cities figured in the top 10.

The safest place in the UK was judged to be Wokingham with a score of 9.44 out of 10, while second was Perth and Kinross with 9.20.
The researchers at Bollards Direct point out that wherever you are, you will have yourself having to walk at times.
Unsurprisingly, they suggest that one way local authorities can better protect pedestrians is to implement the installation of bollards, to provide a visual guide and physical boundary between pedestrian areas and vehicles.
Another option suggested would be to deploy reinforced bollards, often referred to as anti-ram bollards, to reduce the risk of pedestrian accidents.
