TWO men who led officers on a pursuit down the M56 at Lymm last night have been arrested by police.

At 10:50pm yesterday, Tuesday, (Feb 21), officers were alerted to reports of a HGV at Poplar 2000 services, Lymm, which was displaying cloned numberplates.

Officers were quickly deployed to the scene and engaged in a pursuit of the cloned IVECO box van as it travelled down the M56 and on to the M62 Eastbound toward Greater Manchester.

The quick-thinking officers were able to bring the vehicle to a standstill through the implementation of a tactical stop just after junction 11 near Birchwood.
The two occupants, two men 27 and 29, were successfully removed from the vehicle and subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified, theft of a motor vehicle and driving under false plates.

Following the arrest, Josh Rimmer of the Area Investigation Team North, said: “Thanks to the work of our quick-thinking officers, two disqualified drivers have been taken off the road and will be held accountable for their actions.
“I also hope that this acts as a clear indication toward any criminals who intend target Lymm as well as wider Cheshire.
“It is a warning, a promise, that our officers will be watching the roads for you and that we will catch you.”
