Long-established care home makes new bid for extension

A LONG-established care home at Lymm is seeking planning consent for a rear extension to enable nine additional rooms to be provided.

Keate House – which currently provides accommodation for 54 elderly residents – made a similar application in March last year, but was refused permission by Warrington planners.
The new application argues that the concerns raised last year do not amount to a sustainable objection sufficient to justify refusal of planning permission.
There would be only a marginal change to the number of visits to the site with no impact on parking or highway safety.

Town planner John Groves, on behalf of the applicant, says: “Keate House is a highly reputed residential and care home providing accommodate for 54 elderly residents.
“The family-owned business has operated from the site for more than 30 years. It provides for general residential care and specialist provision for those suffering with dementia.
“The operation has secured an outstanding local reputation and draws its residents primarily from the local area, providing a valued community facility which enables local people to remain close to their families and familiar surroundings.”
Mr Groves argues that the business model operated at Keate House is different to that offered by larger scale, multiple site operations such as currently underway in Lymm.
“Keate House is able to offer a bespoke more focused level of care which might not be as readily available in larger more commercially focused care facilities.”
Although the property is in a conservation area. The proposed development is very much at the rear of the building and has little if any impact on the conservation area.
