Rylands appoint new manager

WARRINGTON Rylands have today confirmed that Michael Clegg will be the club’s new manager, replacing Jody Banim who resigned from his caretaker role towards the end of January.

He will be assisted by former Bolton Wanderers player, Nicky Hunt, who was first team coach at Ashton United when Clegg was manager at Hurst Cross. His reign at Ashton ended in January when he resigned after a run of heavy defeats bringing to an end a challenging time steering the club through Covid and winning the Manchester Premier Cup last season.
He started his coaching career with home town club Atherton LR, who he had also served as a player, before taking over as manager in 2013. A year later he crossed the great divide to take over as manager of Atherton Collieries.
In his five seasons at Colls he guided them to 3 promotions as they rose from the North West Counties League Division One to the Northern Premier League Premier Division, as well as picking up several cups along the way.

Clegg left Atherton in November 2019 to become manager of Ashton United, taking over from, ironically, Jody Banim.
He will meet the players at training tonight and will take charge of his first game on Saturday when Warrington Rylands visit Whitby Town.
7  points off the last play off spot Rylands face opponents desperate to pull away from the relegation zone.
