Police catch vandal who spray-painted Royal British Legion Tommy

UPDATED: POLICE have caught a vandal who spray-painted a Royal British Legion WW1 Tommy figure next to the Walton War Memorial.

Police have thanked everyone who helped support them with their enquiries and those members of the community who cleaned off some of the damage caused by the paint, especially on the Tommy figure.

A police spokesperson said: “After enquiries in the local area and information passed to us by members of the community we have been able to identify the male involved in causing the damage.
“The male in question has now been interviewed regarding the offence. We will update in due cause what action will be taken against him.
“We would like to thank everyone who helped support us with and enquiries, we would also like to thank the members of the community who cleaned off some of the damage caused by the paint, especially on the Tommy figure.

The investigation followed graffiti attacks involving spray paint in the Latchford and Walton areas of Warrington, including targeting the Royal British Legion Tommy Silhouette next to a war memorial.

Officers have received several reports of criminal damage from several members of the public believed to have taken place during the early hours of Saturday, Jan 14.

The damage has been caused by an individual spray painting the word ‘slim’ on public and private property in the Latchford, and Walton area near to the Stag pub.
