Man arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after car catches fire following collision involving two vehicles and a bus

UPDATED: A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving under the influence of drugs following a serious road traffic collision involving two vehicles and a bus on Tannery Lane, Penketh, yesterday afternoon.

At 15:50 two fire crews from Penketh and Widnes attended the scene where a car was well alight at a road traffic collision involving two vehicles and a bus.

Crews wore breathing apparatus and used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. Police and Ambulance were both in attendance with casualties being taken care of by paramedics.
One carriageway of Widnes Road was closed due to the incident.

A Cheshire police spokesperson said: “The collision involved a bus, a red Toyota Aygo and a white BMW.
“The driver of the BMW, a 23-year-old local man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drug driving, driving without insurance and driving while disqualified. He remains in custody at this time.

The driver of the bus, a 60-year-old local man, and the driver of the Aygo, a 47-year-old woman from Rochdale, were both taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
