Bailiffs successfully remove travellers from Bents Garden & Home

UPDATED: BAILIFFS successfully removed an unauthorised travellers encampment from the car park at Bents Garden & Home at Glazebury, Warrington.

It was the fourth unauthorised encampment in the Warrington area since the turn of the year, sparking calls from Culcheth, Croft and Glazebury Parish Council Cllr Wendy Maisey, for Warrington Borough Council, to provide an update on providing a transit site for travellers in the town.

Three caravans arrived at Bents on Saturday, Jan 14, shortly after six caravans were reported on council land on Silver Lane at nearby Risley, following on from two unauthorised encampments at Great Sankey.

Cllr Maisey said: “This is the forth encampment in Warrington since the New year. Glazebury & Croft are hot spots for this activity and a decision is needed by Warrington Borough Council as to the location of the permanent traveller transit site.
“I feel that progress is not being made quickly enough, there is no meeting set this year for the committee to reconvene and Councillors are not being updated on the status of the transition site.
“I wrote to the Council Leader last week requesting an urgent update. It’s false economy to keep kicking this issue into the long grass. The cost of clearing up and other damage far outweigh the cost of the transit site, the funds for the site have been ring-fenced for many years.
“I’ve repeated asked WBC for the cost of clear up at Silver Lane since 2021 but have never received this information. We need to all work together to resolve this matter once and for all for the residents of Warrington”.

The encampment has now vacated the site.
