THE Met office has issued a Yellow weather warning for ice from 6 pm tonight (Sunday) with a 40-50 percent chance of snow, forecast for Warrington during the early hours of next Friday.

With temperatures falling the Yellow warning of ice starts at 18:00 GMT on Sunday 15 January until 10:00am GMT on Monday 16 January.

Icy surfaces are expected to develop following wintry showers leading to some difficult travelling conditions resulting in possible injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces and probably icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The forecast for the week ahead is as follows:

Tonight:
Showers will become more widespread into the evening and overnight, falling as snow over high ground and maybe even to low levels in heavier bursts. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Monday:
After a frosty morning, it will be a widely dry day on Monday with plenty of sunny spells. Feeling cold, though with light winds. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:
Remaining cold with frosty nights. A mixture of sunny spells and showers, falling as sleet or snow at times but increasingly confined to coasts.

Friday
40-50 percent chance of snow for Warrington.
