Travellers set up camp at Silver Lane again!

AN encampment of travellers has been reported arriving at Silver Lane at Risley, Warrington, on Thursday evening, despite a barrier blocking their access.

Six caravans and associated vehicles were reported accessing the site at around 5 pm on Thursday evening. It is unclear if the encampment is the same one, ordered to vacate a public footpath at Great Sankey earlier in the day, after being served with a police notice.

Local Parish Cllr Sue Bland said: “I received a call at 5pm to say that there were about six lots of travellers at the barrier, next thing they appeared to have broken through!
“I tried to contact several people..to no avail!

“This situation has been going on for a great number of years now..before I came off the borough council…how much longer will it take? There has been a so-called working group in place all this time,to look into an area for a traveller’s site, at what cost dare I ask?
An official site would solve a huge problem plus save money in the long run.
Cllr Bland added: “It makes me so angry that this ongoing expense is taking so long. It never seems to be discussed within the council now.”
