WARRINGTON Wolves are gearing up for the Ben Currie testimonial match, which takes place on Saturday, February 4.

The Wolves are heading to Portugal later this month for a pre-season warm weather training camp as they build up to the Super League season opener against Leeds on February 16.

Their opening pre-season game will be Currie’s testimonial against the newly re-branded Leigh Leopards (5.30pm kick-off), before a further game against North Wales Crusaders on February 10.

Currie, 28, made his Wolves debut at the age of 17 against Widnes in 2012 earning him the heritage number 1101.

He has gone on to make 229 appearances for the club, scoring 88 tries, as well as making three appearances for Swinton on loan earlier in his career.

A mainstay in the Wolves starting line-up, Currie has also won seven England caps and played for Ireland at the 2013 World Cup.

He told Wire TV on the announcement of his testimonial: “It’s a proud moment. I’ve been waiting many years for this now. I’m going in to my 12th season now, Stef Ratchford made me wait a season longer because he’s older!

“I’m very happy to be playing Leigh, it’s a local team to me growing up, I played at the old Leigh stadium and the new stadium many times growing up as well. I’ve always kept a close eye on them.

“It’s the first chance for Warrington fans to look at us as a squad and how we gel together through pre-season. New signings and new players that people get to see for the first time.”

Currie’s testimonial shirt was launched last week, featuring odd socks with fans encouraged to wear odd socks for the game in a show of support for the Down’s Syndrome Association.

They are one of four charity partners for Currie’s testimonial, alongside the Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Research UK and Alder Hey Children’s Charity.

Tickets are now available for the game. Prices start at £15 for adults and £5 for juniors with family tickets also available from £30. Furthermore, Under 7s can go free with a paying adult. To redeem this offer online, as well as family tickets, you will need to add it to your basket which will then be automatically be discounted at the checkout.
