AFTER their stunning victory at Marine on Bank Holiday Monday, Warrington Rylands crashed to a 3-0 defeat at home to Ashton United.

After an initial feeling-out period Ashton United, without a win in their last four games but under new management, opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Jason Gilchrist raced onto a long ball played over the Rylands defence he rounded Joel Torrance to slot the ball into the net.

Eight minutes later Ashton goalkeeper Andre Mendes tipped a Sam Egerton shot over the bar as Rylands struggled to find any cohesion and rhythm to their play.
Ashton finished the first half on top with former Rylands player Joe Bunney heading narrowly wide, Nathan Lowe shooting just wide from distance and a Jack McKay run only being halted by a perfectly timed last ditch tackle inside the penalty area by Egerton.

Rylands started the second half a bit livelier than they had been in the first period with Sean Cooke and Kallum Mantack combining in the Ashton area to set up a shooting chance for Mantack who dragged his shot across the face of goal.
After a Lowe free kick had rippled the side netting, Mendes was called on to save a long range Scott Duxbury shot before Dylan Vassallo was off target with an effort from outside the area.
The Ashton defence continued to thwart the Rylands search for an equalizer until Gilchrist doubled his side’s advantage in the 75th minute when a Ben Hardcastle free kick on the edge of the area deflected up off the defensive wall allowing him to nod in unchallenged from close range.
Two minutes later Lowe put the game beyond Rylands reach when his free kick caught out Torrance who allowed the ball to squirm through his hand at the foot of the post as Ashton United completed a league double over Warrington Rylands having beaten them 3-1 at Hurst Cross in August.
