Developer seeks approval for anti-contamination work

DEVELOPERS Countryside have applied for the approval of work carried out to deal with possible land contamination on the site of their 500-home riverside development at Centre Park, Warrington.

Work started on the project in April last year after borough council planners approved the scheme the previous month.
The mixed-tenure development – to be named Rivers Edge – consists of 413 two, three and four-bedroom houses and 100 apartments, 10 per cent of which will be allocated for affordable homes.

It marks a major investment in Warrington by Countryside, who already have offices and a modular panel factory in the town.
The 38.7 acre development site borders the River Mersey and is a short, 10-minute walk from Bank Quay railway station.
Many homes will front onto the river.
The Warrington Borough Council planning approval granted last March contained a number of conditions, including some relating to the possibility of contaminated land and underground gas arising from historic industrial activity in the area.
Countryside is now seeking the discharge of these conditions after importing topsoil and installing a suitable gas membrane product.
Their application for Spectra Park off Slutchers Lane, is now being considered by borough council planning officers
Further similar applications will be made in due course
