UPDATED: There were lengthy delays on the M56 eastbound in Cheshire this morning following a road traffic collision involving two cars.
The collision happened at around 6.00am today (Tuesday, December 6).
Emergency services attended at the scene and there were severe delays with queuing traffic for five miles, going back to the A494 Bypass Road with traffic falling on to the M53, back to J7 (Overpool) for Southbound traffic and J12 (Chester) for Northbound.
Three fire crews attended at the collision involving two cars and firefighters made the vehicles safe. There was no one trapped and no fire. Cheshire Police and Highways Agency attended and closed the motorway while the incident was dealt with.
The motorway has since re-opened.
