Bus company donates uniforms to care home

DURING the ongoing clear-out of Warrington’s Own Buses’ current Wilderspool Causeway depot a number of items of clothing, including uniforms, were uncovered which have been donated to a care home for recycling.

The company was reluctant to simply throw the items away which, despite some being badged with the company’s branding, were unused and unworn and could therefore have value.

Warrington’s Own Buses staff member Andy McDermott, through his wife’s place of work, was therefore able to donate the clothing to Westleigh House’s activity fund.

Westleigh House is a residential home to adults over 65 with long-term mental health support needs. For many, this can be their home for a number of years, although for others it acts as a very successful transitional stage towards having their own home, either on their own, or sharing with other people. It can also be used as a location for short breaks away from a permanent home elsewhere.
Westleigh House’s staff member Ang and her mother were able to collect and offer these items for recycling to raise funds for their cause. Coincidentally, Ang’s dad was formerly a driver for Warrington Borough Transport so their visit provided a nostalgic trip down memory lane!

Project Manager at Warrington’s Own Buses, Andy Rigby, said: “We are delighted that Westleigh House has been able to benefit from the donation of our old uniform. It is great to have helped a good cause and that we have been able to avoid the uniform being simply thrown away.”

The clear-out took place as part in anticipation of the company’s move to its new depot on Dallam Lane.
