Council car parking charges set to increase next week

1

CAR parking charges are set to increase at council-run car parks across Warrington from next Monday, November 21.

Charges will increase on average by 20 per cent on most car parks, although an increase of 50 per cent is being imposed on the public car park next to Warrington town hall.

The increases follow increased management costs.

At the time the increases were first announced last month a Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “Over the last few years, the costs to manage and operate car parks have increased considerably. A review has been undertaken and prices have been kept in line with the increase in Consumer Price Index (CPI).

“However, as part of these proposals, we recognise that it’s important to retain the charging hours and enhancements that are already in place. The first hour will remain free in Lymm car parks, and free parking after 3pm at The Forge car park in Stockton Heath still applies.”

The Council has now made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4, 32, 35 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers on 16th November 2022. The effect of the Order is as follows:

  1. Just in time for the pre Christmas shopping spree and the many events that run up to the festive period, such as Christmas street markets.

wonder how many extra fines will be handed out for people trying to find alternative parking.
