Approved – the dog exercise park at historic house

PLANNING chiefs have approved a retrospective application for permission to change farmland to a dog exercise park.

The proposal at Stretton House, in Northwich Road, Lower Stretton, also includes a plan to change the use of a private tennis court to one which can be hired by the hours.
A shelter is also included in the scheme.

Planners at Warrington Borough Council were told there was significant demand for spaces where dogs can be allowed off the lead and safely exercised or trained away from other dogs and people.
The proposal would enable dogs to be exercised free of the risk of them worrying livestock – and the temporary nature of the development would have no adverse impact on the openness of the Green Belt.

The tennis court had existed on the site for some years and the only change would be that it would become available for hire by the hour.
Stretton House is a Grade 2 Listed building, dating from 1788.
The applicants claimed the proposed dog park and tennis court were part of diversification proposals for the site to help provide funding for the renovation of the historic house.
