LOCAL Liberal Democrats have selected Woolston resident Brian Meichen to stand in the Borough Council by-election for Rixton and Woolston on November 24.
Brian is now retired but before that worked in senior commercial posts for 23 years at British Nuclear Fuels, then took up an appointment in business development, marketing and international recruitment at the University of Salford.
He has lived in Woolston with his wife Marianne since 1976 and has a long-standing interest in improving roads, footpaths and green spaces and making improvements to air quality.
Brian said:, “Liberal Democrats support well-run, cost-effective local services. We call for more transparency from the Labour administration, for the opportunity to scrutinise their budget proposals and to put forward our own ideas. I promise to fight to make sure every pound of taxpayer’s money is properly spent.
“As a councillor I would give priority to fighting for a fair deal for Rixton and Woolston, delivering action not words on fighting climate change and protecting the green belt. This by-election is your chance to send a message that communities like ours will not be taken for granted.
“This local by-election is your opportunity to let the government in Westminster know what you think about the mess they have caused and their underfunding of local services. Warrington’s Conservatives don’t appear to be interested in funding local services either. They complain when the Council earns money from its investments and want to cut spending even more.”
