Halloween came early at Holt House for Warrington Rylands as they crashed out of the Isuzu FA Trophy 5-0 in embarrassing fashion at Colne.

Things went from bad to worse as star striker Kane Drummond, making his 100th appearance for the club, saw red in the second half.

Languishing in 18th place in the NPL West, the home side got off to a flying start scoring in the first minute when Craig Cairney got on the end of a cross to turn the ball past Joel Torrence.

Playing down the considerable slope in the first half, Rylands went close to leveling in the 10th minute through Harry Pratt but he was denied by a good save from Colne goalkeeper Andre Mendes.

Oli Roberts doubled the home side’s advantage in the 13th minute curling a free kick over the defensive wall and out of Torrence’s reach into the top corner. 13 minutes later and it was 3-0, Owen Watkinson being credited with the goal despite Rylands best efforts to clear off the line in a goalmouth scramble an eagle eyed linesman indicated the ball had crossed the line.

Looking like they would score every time they attacked, Colne scored again in the 33rd minute. A free kick was lofted into the Rylands area; Torrence came off his line but failed to reach the ball which was knocked down to Tom Hoyle who put the ball into the empty net from 10 yards.

As a disjoined shambolic first half performance drew to a close Pratt headed over the Colne bar in a rare Rylands attack.

After a strong half-time talking too Rylands started the second half with more intent but were still second to most things behind a determined hard working Colne team who outplayed their visitors in every aspect of the game.

Visitors who were reduced to ten men in the 52nd minute when Kane Drummond’s 100th appearance for Rylands was brought to a premature end when he was red-carded after a miss timed tackle.

Colne were handed a 5th goal in the 62nd minute when a long ball down field caused a mix up between in Rylands rearguard leaving Enock Lusiama the simple task of shooting into an empty net from 30 yards. Coming out of his goal Torrence’s clearance cannoned off defender Ben Hockenhull into the path of Lusiama.

With Colne content to play out the game Rylands had several attempts at goal, several missed the target, Jak McCourt smashed a shot against an upright and Mendes made a couple of saves including from a Callum Dolan penalty, mysteriously awarded in the 90th minute.
