THERE will be a two-day road closure in Warrington town centre at the end of October to allow the ongoing demolition of New Town House.

Warrington Borough Council has given notice it intends to make an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The effect of which will be to introduce a prohibition of driving as follows: Cockhedge Way from its junction with Scotland Road to its junction with Orford Street; Orford Street from its junction with Cockhedge Way to its junction with Buttermarket Street.

The Order will be effective from 30th October 2022 for 2 days, as and when signed on site. Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works.

The alternative route will be via Academy Street, Mersey Street, Fennel Street and Brick Street. The closure is required to allow for the demolition of New Town House.

The site is currently being cleared to provide a green space as part of a proposed development of 900 apartments on part of the Cockhedge site.

  1. The regeneration of this sector of Warrington is desperately in need as it is an eyesore but the Question has a need to be asked, is Warrington making a rod for it’s back, a vast amount of monies has to be made available for new infrastructure in and around the town centre carriageway plus the A road’s into and through the town, 7.000 plus new dwelling’s potential of 7.000 + new car’s 1.000″s of tonnes of fumes and pietro-carbon cancerous airborne particles, Doctor’s, school’s and the Hospital needed for this influx isn’t available for the people of Warrington and the surrounding areas, The People of Warrington need to wake up and smell the coffee with, don’t get me wrong but the resources needed to cater for all of Warrington isn’t going too happen till its too late quite possibly a further ten year’s or more, money, money, money is all about this council to finance a unittry or city status not to be worried about the clean air and public welfare..
