Mystery of disappearing bus shelters resolved!

THE mystery of disappearing bus shelters across Warrington has been resolved.

Residents have been taking to social media complaining about bus shelters around the town disappearing without warning.

One of the first to disappear was a shelter on Twenty Acre Road at Old Hall.

After being contacted by Warrington Worldwide Warrington Borough Council has now confirmed that the shelters are disappearing as part of a replacement programme, after instructing a new supplier.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “Over 20 years ago, ClearChannel (CCUK) installed in excess of 230 bus shelters across the Borough as part of a commercial agreement with us. That agreement ended earlier this year. To date, CCUK have removed 28 of these bus shelters throughout the Borough, under the terms of the agreement that we had with them. The vast majority of those that have been removed and those that remain are due to be replaced with new shelters under the agreement signed with the incoming supplier.

“A small proportion of the original shelters are not going to be replaced as they are either no longer on a bus route or their amenity value is otherwise low. The incoming supplier has indicated that they will commence the installation of the new bus shelters during week commencing 10 October, starting with the shelters that have been removed to date.”

  1. What about the shelter outside Undercliffe House Dingleway ? There are 99 apartments in Undercliffe House and a lot of the residents use the bus and rely on being able to sit down and keep dry whilst waiting for the bus. Is this shelter being replaced soon?

    • The shelters in Penketh are also disappearing with no clues when they might be replaced. Disgusting for elderly and less able residents who can’t stand for long and when it’s raining we all get soaked. Puts people off going to town at all. If WBC were a private business it would go bust.
