Balcony smoking area plan for new restaurant

PLANS have been submitted for a first floor balcony to provide an exterior smoking area for diners at a new restaurant in London Road, Stockton Heath.

The development has been proposed for the former Tom@101 restaurant. It would also provide a covered exterior area at ground floor level.

Proposals put to Warrington Borough Council’s planning department say steel columns supporting the balcony would be slender to avoid unnecessary mass, as would the floor structure.
Circular spindles at a height to comply with building regulations would be capped with a hardwood handrail.
Both the balcony floor and the rain canopy over would be wrapped in powder-coated pressed metal.
The new balcony would offer a significant increase in quality over the timber rain canopy currently in position and would avoid an overbearing addition to the street scene.
The site is within the Stockton Heath Conservation Area.
