New Governors sought for Warrington and Halton Hospitals

WARRINGTON and Halton Teaching Hospitals has commenced its annual recruitment campaign to seek new foundation trust Governors to join its council.

Governors are a key part of the hospitals’ organisational structure and are elected by the Foundation Trust members, providing a vital and vibrant link between the hospital and its local communities.   In addition, Governors:

  • Represent the voice of their communities in helping shape existing and develop new services
  • Hold the non-executive directors of the board to account – ensuring that in turn they are challenging the executive on a wide range of matters from performance to quality to finances to sustainability to people
  • Appoint the Chairman and appraise his performance and appoint the Trust’s auditors
  • Find the role rewarding, learn more about their local hospital, develop new skills and meet many new people during their tenure.

Lead Governor, Norman Holding said: “The role of Governor is key to the Governance structure and we have wide and varied involvement with different aspects of the Trust’s operations. We have several positions available across the WHH patch and we are really looking forward to welcoming some new Governors on board.
“I would encourage anyone with a few spare hours a month and would like to give back to their local hospital to nominate themselves or contact us for an informal chat; it really is one of the most rewarding roles I have taken on.
“More information is available at the dedicated Governor webpage where an easy to read Governor handbook provides information on all aspects of the role, and we are happy to have an informal chat with anyone interested in learning more.”

The constituencies that are looking for Governors are Warrington North, Warrington South, Runcorn & Weaver Vale and Widnes.
Nominations open on 22nd September and close on Wednesday 19th October 2022.
