WARRINGTON Borough Council will hold its official proclamation announcing the succession of King Charles III at Warrington Town Hall, tomorrow, Sunday 11 September- and members of the public are welcome to attend.
Taking place at 3 pm, the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Jean Flaherty, will read the Proclamation of the Privy Council announcing the succession to the Throne of His Majesty King Charles III, from the Town Hall steps.
The proclamation at the Town Hall will be led by the Mayor, accompanied by the council leader, Cllr Russ Bowden, the council’s chief executive, Prof Steven Broomhead MBE, representatives from local political parties, and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant. There will also be a general salute by trumpeters, Warrington Brass, followed by a royal salute.
A similar proclamation ceremony will be held tomorrow, at 4.30pm, at Lymm Cross, led by the Town Cryer, Peter Powell.
It is customary for councils to hold their local proclamation the day after the Royal Proclamation in London. This will take place at St James’s Palace at 11am today, Saturday 10 September, during a meeting of the Privy Council.
Residents can expect to see the Town Hall flag raised to full mast for this event. The flag will then be lowered again for the period of mourning.
A book of condolence has been opened at the Town Hall, which is open every day, from 9.30am to 4pm, for people to attend to leave a message of condolence.
Members of the public are asked to use the West driveway and entrance to the Town Hall (the side closest to Bank Park) to enter, and exit via the reception area to the East. Stewards will be onsite to direct and support.
A book of condolence has also been opened at Lymm Parish Hall.
Residents can also leave a message in an online book of condolence by visiting the Royal Family website at royal.uk/send-message-condolence.
Flowers without plastic wrapping can be laid on the Town Hall lawn. Please do not place flowers at the foot of the Golden Gates.
The national period of mourning will continue until the end of the day of the State Funeral and the council will be following national protocol and advice during this time.
