UPDATED: UNITED Utilities is investigating a water leak that has been ongoing for more than five weeks at Culcheth, Warrington after a frustrated resident decided to take a “tongue in cheek” bathtime!

The water company says it has to carefully plan repairs to avoid disruption on Wigshaw lane at Culcheth.

With some parts of the country enforcing drought measures, residents in Culcheth, were left frustrated by a water leak that has been wasting water for the past five weeks!

One resident was left so frustrated he decided to take a “tongue in cheek” bathtime in the water which has been leaking from a roadside stop cock in the village.

Ken Platt from nearby Lansdowne Culcheth, was pictured taking a bath by his neighbour Mark Daintith, who said: “It’s frustrating to see the water going to waste so we decided to do something tongue in cheek to try and get some action!”

Local Cllr Wendy Maisey commented: “The local councillors are aware of the Wigshaw Lane leak and have been working multi-agency to expedite the repair.
“There are a number of hoops to jump through such as getting the road closed to enable the repairs to commence and we’ll continue to monitor and engage to get this leak repaired as soon as possible.”

A spokesperson for United Utilities said: “We are aware of a leak on Wigshaw Lane and our team has been to the site to investigate.
“The repairs are being carefully planned to avoid disrupting supplies, and will be carried out as soon as possible. We apologise to local residents for any inconvenience caused.”
