Riding school seeks planning consent for outdoor floodlighting

PLANS have been submitted for outdoor floodlighting at a riding school at Penketh, Warrington – two years after planning consent for an indoor riding centre were approved.

The new application is for flood lighting for an existing outdoor menage at Friends Lane Riding School.
In November 2020, Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee approved proposals for the indoor centre, despite officers’ recommendations that the scheme be refused.

More than 50 residents had supported the riding school’s application – although five others objected.
Officers argued that the indoor arena would be inappropriate in the Green Belt.
The school, which teaches carriage driving as well as horse riding, said drainage problems sometimes meant the outdoor centre could not be used and an indoor centre would enable more lessons to be held.
The new application is for flood lighting on the existing outdoor centre. It is currently being considered by planning officers.
