A Warrington gym was evacuated afternoon and two people were taken to hospital after eleven people became unwell after being exposed to chemical fumes in the swimming pool area.

Three fire crews from Penketh, Widnes and Lymm and emergency services attended at the Athelis private gym on Apollo Park, Gemini, Warrington at around 3 pm on Thursday.

Crews were called after reports of a number of people becoming unwell as a result of exposure to chemical fumes in the swimming pool area.

Crews assisted staff in the evacuation of gym members and eleven people reported symptoms. They have been dealt with by paramedics.

Two individuals have been transported to hospital and nine have been assessed at the scene.
All staff and gym members have been accounted for and crews are liaising with gym staff and partner agencies to determine the cause of the incident.

A spokesperson for Athelis said:” Following a technical issue with our rooftop infinity spa this afternoon, we followed our standard health and safety procedures and closed access to the spa to carry out necessary checks and repairs. We expect to return to normal operations and re-open by 6am on Friday.”
