Thelwall Morris Men in danger of becoming extinct

AS they approach their 50th anniversary next year, Thelwall Morris Men are in danger of becoming extinct if they don’t find some new dancers soon.

The local Thelwall Morris team, who take part in various community events throughout the year, is in dire straits with the lack of dancers, as they enter their 50th year of dancing the Morris.

Spokesperson Andrew White said: “We don’t have long to go if we don’t get any new recruits.
“We’re starting with a flyer drop to all Thelwall homes in the hope that the locals, at least, are keen to keep the team going.
“We are, of course, open to any new members – you don’t have to live in Thelwall!”

Thelwall Morris Men perform traditional English morris dances, mostly from the Cotswold region. They can be seen at local pubs most Wednesday evenings through the summer and perform at local festivals including Thelwall Rose Queen and Bawming the Thorn at Appleton Thorn.
When not dancing out, they practise on Wednesdays at Thelwall Parish Hall, WA4 2SX, from about 8:45pm, and then, afterwards, they adjourn to the historic Pickering Arms.

They always welcome new members. If you would like to have a go, contact any team member or you can email them at [email protected] or even just come along to one of the practices. No experience is needed.
