Grappers’ remarkable run of 14 wins comes to an end

GRAPPENHALL’S remarkable run of 14 wins on the trot came to an end when they were held to a draw at home to Lindow.
The result reduced their lead at the top of the RSK Cheshire County League to 14 points, with four games and 100 points left to play for.
Lindow posted 230-5 off their 50 overs on a very good wicket at Broad Lane. Josh Hayes was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.
Unfortunately Grappers found it tougher in the second half as they were forced to hang on at 199-9 at the end of the 50 overs. Grant Hodnett top scored with 73.
Grappenhall 2nd put on a superb performance to win at Lindow by five wickets. Table toppers Lindow posted 181 in their 50 overs with Matt Titchard taking 4 -34 in 13 overs.
In reply, Grappers were struggling at 45-4 when 17 year olds Zak Judge and Lewis Porter came together and put on over 100 for the next wicket to take Grappers to within touching distance of the win.
Zak Judge was dismissed for a superb 63 before Lewis Porter saw the side home with an excellent 56 not out with eight overs to spare. The result moves Grappers 2nd to fifth place in the table.
Grappenhall 3rd won a crucial game against Elworth by 105 runs. Grappers posted 196-8 off their 40 overs with everyone contributing with the bat. Ben Clissold top scored with 33. I
Elworth never really got going as Grappers superb young bowling attack, all five bowlers under 18, made it difficult for the visitors and dismissed them for just 91 with 13 overs to spare.
Judge continued his fine form to cap a superb all round performance with 5-21 runs off seven overs. The result moved Grappers up to sixth in the table.
Warrington went down by 65 runs hosting Haslington.
Winning the toss they asked the visitors to bat first and bowled them out for 189 in 41 overs. Muhammad Abid was the pick of the bowlers with 3-32 and Chai Gadepelli and Ashley Scholes picked up two wickets each.
It seemed a modest target but Warrington got off to a dreadful start and at 53-7 did not likely to achieve the respectability of three figures. But some late hitting from Abid, 38 not out, enabled them to reach 124, picking up five points from the game.
Warrington 2nd lost by five wickets at Alvanley where they were put in and restricted ti 165-8. But it could have been worse but for a fighting 53 not out from mid-order batsman Brad Roden.
The home side lost two quick wickets with only seven on the board, but then marched on to victory without too much trouble. Roden, with 2-26 was the most successful bowler.
More than 550 runs were scored in Lymm Oughtrington Park’s UKFast Cheshire League game at Langley – but Lymm
still managed to lose by 65 runs.
Winning the toss, they decided to field first and saw the home side rack up a massive 311-7 – mainly due to opener
Matthew Nicholls’ 201 not out.
Lymm used seven bowlers but none were able to stem the flow of runs.
After tea, Lymm’s batsmen were also among the runs, with opener Mohammed Bhola hitting 73, Jean-Michael Fouche 52
and Jack Hughes 46.
But the target was too great and Lymm were all out for 246 in 41 overs – a total that in most matches would have been enough for victory.
In the event, Lymm picked up only one point!
Appleton were at Wistaston Village and bowled the hosts out for 85. It was a modest target but Appleton lost six wickets getting there.
Appleton 2nd won by 129 runs after electing to bat first at home to Neston and hitting 238-4. The visitors could only muster 109-9 in 40 overs.
Appleton 3rd won by 64 runs at home to Offerton after hitting 215-3 after the visitors asked them to bat first.
An opening partnership of 88 between John Porter, 48 and Paul White, 53 got Appleton off to a good start and Oliver Cross, 42 not out and Ed Nelson, 45 not out them to 215.
Cross was also in form with the ball, taking 3-26 while David Webb took 3-16 as Offerton were bowled out for 151.
Appleton 4th also had a good win, by seven wickets, after restricting Winnington Park to 168-9. Josh Hill took 3-23 and Martin Othick 3-14. Appleton replied with 171-3, largely due to brothers David Hurst, 34 and Anthony Hurst, 76 not out.
Glazebury won by 13 runs at Malpas in a game that could have gone either way.
Winning the toss and batting first, Glazebury batted solidly to total 164. Ben Marota top-scored with 33 and Dean Lord contributed 25.
The home side lost three quick wickets but their later batsmen fought hard and in the end if was a nail-biting finish. Kenny Jarvis took 3-19 and Marota 3-32 as Malpas were all out for 151.
Glazebury 2nd lost by 132 runs at home to Cheadle Hulme.
The visitors batted first and reached 287-6.despite Glazebury using eight bowlers. Geoff Roberts took 3-52 and Steven Bell 3-70.
Glazebury were all out for 155, veteran Simon Green rolling back the years to hit a fine70 and Geoff Roberts hitting 35.
