LATCHFORD Albion fell to a disappointing 16-28 defeat against play off chasing Blackbrook.
The hosts got off to the worst possible start when, in the opening minutes a knock in the home 22, gave the visitors possession which they duly took full advantage of to open the scoring with a converted try.
Albion hit straight back when Danny Brown’s clever offload was collected by Charlie McCurrie who raced over from 10 yards, Rob Marsh converting.
Shortly after the hosts took the lead. Following some good field position, scrum half Matty Ellis gave a precision pass to Ben Harper who powered his way over out wide to score.
Credit to Blackbrook who quickly hauled themselves back into the game, and on 20 and 25 minutes scored converted tries to seize the initiative at the break.
Half time score was Latchford 10 Blackbrook 18
Latchford started the second half strongly and believed they had scored on the last tackle when Jamie Matthewman crossed, however the referee ruled he was held up.
Worse was to come when three tackles later the visitors counter attacked and raced 60 yards to further extend their lead.
On 55 minutes Matty Ellis spotted a tiring Brook defence and sold an audacious dummy to run unopposed under the sticks, Sam Dobson converting to bring the hosts back within six points at 16-22, and the game was back in the balance.
Despite some good pressure, the Brook defence held firm, and hit Albion with a sucker punch on 75 minutes when a converted try sealed the victory in a game that was competitive throughly.
Albion have a free weekend before making the trip to Ashton Bears, a game that is in the process of being moved from Saturday September 3 to Friday September 2.
