Neighbours lose battle over house-in-the-garden plan

NEIGHBOURS have lost a fight to stop plans for a detached house in the garden of an existing property in Whitefield Road, Stockton Heath.

Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee approved the scheme after hearing that planning officers were recommending it be allowed.
Borough Cllr. Peter Walker and Stockton Heath Parish Council also opposed to the scheme.
Objectors claimed the development would cause an unacceptable loss of light to an adjoining house and that on-street parking would cause congestion at the busy junction of Whitefield Road, Belvoir Road, Red Lane and Westbourne Road.

Other objections related to the loss of privacy, garden space and mature hedging, overcrowding of the site, “garden grabbing” and loss of character in the area.
Planning officers said the proposal would provide a small addition to the borough’s housing land supply without significant detriment to the amenity of the nearest neighbours and would result in no harm to the character of the area, or highway safety.
