THERE were lengthy delays on the M56 near Warrington on Saturday afternoon following a multi-vehicle collision near junction 11 westbound.
The M56 westbound was blocked after the multi-vehicle crash with all traffic held after the incident between junction 11 for Preston Brook and junction 12 for Runcorn.
Emergency services were called to the scene with three miles of congestion on approach with motorists urged to allow extra time for travel in the area.
National Highways posted on twitter: “There are reports of a collision blocking the carriageway on the #M56 westbound between J11 and J12 near #Runcorn.
“Emergency services and Traffic Officers are en route to scene. There are 2 miles of congestion on approach so please allow extra travel time if in the area.”
Congestion was later reported to be at least three miles.
While lane one is now open near the incident delays of 35 minutes were being reported – with normal traffic conditions not expect before 16:45pm.
All lanes have since re-opened.
