Travellers served police notice to vacate Longshaw Street playing fields

UPDATED: TRAVELLERS have been served a police notice to vacate the Longshaw Street playing fields at Dallam by the end of today, Monday.

Just a day after vacating playing fields on Saturday, travellers returned in greater numbers, outraging local residents.

Three caravans and associated vehicles which had been permitted to stay on the land for health reasons, vacated the Longshaw Street playing fields on Saturday morning, allowing sports activities to return.

But 16 caravans and associated vehicles returned to the site, with local residents posting on social media that gates had been vandalised.

It is understood police attempted to stop the group from accessing the land and a police presence remains in the area.

Earlier in the week Bank Quay Bulls had made a plea to Warrington Borough Council to move the travellers off the land, so a memorial game for a former player can take place next month and for local youngsters to be able to use the rugby pitches.

It is currently one of at least three encampments currently in the Warrington area.
The others are Great Sankey Parish field, Great Sankey which arrived on July 16 and the Parish Council has permitted the group of seven caravans to stay until end of July 24 and Peel Hall Park, Fearnhead. A Court hearing is to be requested to remove 9 caravans that had previously been given temporary permission to remain due to health concerns.

A Cheshire police spokesperson said: “At 4pm on Sunday 24 July police were called to reports of an unauthorised encampment on Longshaw Street, Warrington.
Officers attended the scene and a number of caravans were found to have gained entry onto the recreation ground.
Officers have been paying passing attention to the area throughout the night and papers have since been served ordering the papers to leave those present to leave the site by 5pm today, Monday 25 July.”

I have no sympathy for the travelling community, you All reap what you sow, all us tax paying residents of warrington have had enough, just go away to somewhere else who doesn’t mind your filth, theft, and absolute disregard to law abiding residents! A nuclear bomb under a caravan wudnt go amiss!
