Travellers permitted to stay at Peel Hall Park due to ongoing health issues

TRAVELLERS who illegally set up camp on council-owned land at Peel Hall Park in mid-June, have been permitted to stay due to ongoing health issues.

The encampment of seven caravans arrived on June 15, shortly after a group that arrived in April had left the site.
Now the council has agreed to provide a portable toilet and bin to minimise the impact on the local community.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “The Cheshire and Warrington gypsy and traveller team has carried out health assessments with the encampment at Peel Hall Park and, given some issues within the group, they have been permitted to stay.
“The encampment will be provided with a portable toilet and a bin to help to minimise the impact on the local community and the situation will be kept under review.”

It is one of four traveller encampments currently in the Warrington area, the latest being an unconfirmed report of six caravans at Blackcap Road, Appleton Thorn, understood to have arrived on July 8.
Six caravans on Jubilee Hub grounds, Orford, that arrived on July 6 had been ordered to leave by 3pm Friday, July 8.
A court hearing is also being organised to remove two caravans from the overspill car park at Orford Park.
The gypsy/traveller team is unable to advise how long it will take to arrange the date of the hearing as this is dependent on the court’s capacity, however, it is usually within a few working days.
