THERE was a show of unity as the town’s two MPs showed their support for the new Mayor of Warrington Cllr. Jean Flaherty at Civic Sunday.
It was the first time in 25 years that an MP from the North and the South both attended the event at St Elphin’s Parish Church which is held to celebrate the appointment of a new Mayor and those who contribute to public life.
Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols said: “It was an honour to join the Civic Service at Warrington Parish Church of St Elphin’s for the new Mayor of Warrington Cllr Jean Flaherty!
It was a very moving service with music from Warrington Brass and the Beautiful Noise choir, and apparently, the first time in 25 years that both of Warrington’s MPs have signed the register with the Mayor- fitting for the sense of unity and purpose that I’m sure will be a feature of Jean’s Mayoral Year.
“Thank you to everyone who helped make the service so special.”
Meanwhile, Warrington South MP Andy Carter said: “It’s a great pleasure to be able to join with the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr. Jean Flaherty, Charlotte Nichols MP and members of the Council at the start of the Civic year, to recognise everyone in the Borough who contributes to public life, including our armed services, community groups, and volunteers.”
“I wish Jean and her consort the very best for the year ahead, I look forward to seeing her in Warrington South in the weeks to come.”
