Police alerted after suspected arson incident at former gym building

POLICE have been informed following a suspected arson incident at the former DW Sports gym building off Mersey Street, Warrington, last night.

At 7:40 pm two crews from Warrington and Stockton Heath were deployed to reports of a fire in the large disused gym premises in the town centre.

On arrival they found the building to be smoke logged, caused by a small fire believed to have been lit deliberately.

They extinguished it using a hose reel water jet and cleared the smoke using a large specialist fan.
Police were informed. Anyone with information should call 101.
