Thumbs up for Warrington Youth Zone

WARRINGTON South MP Andy Carter has given the thumbs up to the town’s brand new Youth Zone, after meeting young people enjoying the town centre facility during the school holidays.

On his recent visit, the Warrington South MP met some of the first children to get to spend time at the Youth Zone, taking part in the Government’s Holiday Activities and Food Programme, which provides support to children on free school meals through school holiday periods.

The centre will be offering activities 7 days a week for just 50p per visit, giving young people aged 7-19 (and up to 25 for those with additional needs) a safe place to socialise, exercise, develop new skills and have fun.

Touring the building with Warrington Youth Club CEO Dave McNicholl, Mr Carter also met with many of the newly recruited staff before chatting to some of the young people visiting for the first time.

Mr Carter said: “Every young person I’ve spoken to here at the Youth Zone today thinks this is such a brilliant place, so good they don’t want to go home at the end of the day.

“Seeing the outline sketches, being invited to the groundbreaking, touring the site while construction was underway and now meeting the kids who are the very purpose of the Youth Zone – it feels like we’ve all come on an incredible journey. The range of activities this centre offers is endless: a rooftop football pitch, climbing wall, podcast studio, arts and crafts, drum kits, cooking, basketball courts and so much more!

“This is an incredibly exciting project helping to strengthen young people’s physical and mental health and wellbeing. It was great to meet some of the dedicated, hard-working staff who are making the place come together and the patrons who’ve helped financially to bring a vision to reality. I’m so pleased we have such a brilliant place for kids in Warrington to be able to get stuck in when the Youth Zone is fully up and running.”
