Travellers breach security measures to set up camp at Poole Park

TRAVELLERS have set up camp on Poole Park, Orford, evading security measures put in place to prevent vehicles from entering the area.

Six caravans and other associated vehicles entered Poole Park on Winwick Road yesterday, Tuesday, and are believed to be the same travellers that had set up on Orford Park previously.

Council officers are set to attend the council-owned park as soon as possible to conduct an initial welfare assessment.

The park has previously been blighted by illegal travellers’ encampments on numerous occasions in the past.

Local councillors successfully campaigned for security measures, including fencing to be put in place, but these have been breached.

Meanwhile, another encampment of six vehicles on Birchwood Forest Park has had its notice period extended due to a medical issue within the group.

These are believed to be the same travellers that set up camp at the Raven Inn in Glazebury, staying on the privately owned site for around two months.
