Future of wildlife sanctuary hopefully secured after “amazing” response to appeal

THE future of the Wildwings wildlife sanctuary based at Taylor Business Park, Risley, Warrington, has hopefully now been secured until at least December 2025, following an “amazing” response to a public appeal for funding.

Not only did the bird sanctuary exceed the £6,500 they thought they required to secure full planning permission – they have now been told they only need to apply for a non-material amendment and a variant of conditions – which will only cost hundreds, not thousands of pounds.

Almost five years after securing planning permission Carole Rose and Ian Middleton, who run the Wildwings Birds of Prey wildlife sanctuary, had been told by Warrington Borough Council planners, that they would need to reapply for permission.

Carole said: “After amazing support from the public we actually exceeded our target. Then after media coverage, the council rang me to inform that after further research we didn’t need to submit a Full Planning Application after all.

“We do have to submit a Non-material amendment and then a Variation of Condition again. This should be a total cost in the hundreds rather than the thousands of pounds the Full Application would have cost. This should then give us until at least December 2025. The Decision on the first application which has now been submitted should be within 28 days.”
