Heartbroken mum goes into action to tackle act of vandalism at memorial garden to soldier son

A heartbroken mum who saw the memorial garden dedicated to her dead soldier son vandalised, rolled up her sleeves and repainted a wall to remove eyesore graffiti.

Lisa Billing was joined by volunteer Derek Vernon to re-paint the wall at the new look Marshall Gardens, close to Warrington cenotaph, which had been targetted with spray paint earlier in the week.

Undeterred, Lisa, whose son Daniel Wade died alongside five comrades 10 years ago during active service in Afghanistan aged just 20, returned to the scene of the crime with Derek to cover over the vandalism with a new coat of paint.

Lisa said: I would like to thank Derek who helped me paint the wall. Instead of graffiti, we have a very special place to learn of the sacrifices made by others and the reason my Son is not alive today. The culprit should be grateful of the life they have thanks to our War Heroes. Would they fight for our country??”

Meanwhile, Lisa is on the lookout for other volunteers to help with weeding at the gardens and another project at her son’s former school, Sir Thomas Boteler, where an Oak tree was planted in an orchard in his memory 10 years ago.

Lisa added: I am looking for volunteers to help with the project. What would the children at Boteler like to see in the Orchard ? children can contact via reception at school and volunteers through the Friends of Marshall Gardens facebook page.”

  1. We should treasure the names and memories of these brave young men. Who gave their lives so we and our children could have a better future.

Sadly, it looks like there was no CCTV footage of these morons. Which is a real shame that we can’t plaster their faces all over the media.
