Latchford pay heavy price for a slow start

LATCHFORD paid the price for a slow start when they fell to a 16-28 defeat to Thatto Heath Crusaders in the NWML Premier Division.
They were 22-0 down after 30 minutes and, despite competing throughout, were always playing catch up and unable to turn the scoreline around.
The visitors crossed on five minutes to take an early lead. Worse was to come when Albion were found napping from the restart and Thatto raced into a 12-0 lead after only seven minutes, with both scores converted.
Two further scores came on 16 and 30 minutes to put the visitors in control of the game.
Latchford opened their account on 35 minutes. Full back Matty Rudd set winger Aaron Povall free, and Sam Dobson was in support to take the pass and race under the posts. Rudd added the extras leaving a half time score of Latchford 6 Thatto Heath 22
A better start to the second half, saw the hosts start to make inroads into the Thatto Heath line, and it was not long before the pressure was turned into points. A quick play the ball allowed captain Daniel Brown (pictured) to crash his way over, Rudd again adding the extras.
Despite sustained pressure Albion could not find a way through the opposition defence, and were hit with a hammer blow on 65 Minutes when Thatto crossed for a converted try, ultimately putting the game beyond the hosts reach.
Aaron Povall crossed out wide for Latchford on 75 minutes, but this was a mere consolation on a tough afternoon for Martyn Ellis’ side.
This Saturday Latchford take a break from their league campaign when they host Bury Broncos in the first round of the NWML Challenge Trophy. Kick off 2.30pm
